About me

About Me

Dancing | writing | connecting

My name is Jane and I am an artist, dancing between forms: dancing, capoeira, poetry, writing, mark making.

I work with improvisation, touch, poetry and mark making to cultivate presence, attention and curiosity.

Improvising in response, and in relation to space, time, self and other(s), I’m curious about how we are all held, interconnected in, and beyond, time.

Enquiries into anatomy, presence, attention to sensation, use of energy and focus support all of my work – though the forms the work takes continually evolve. The body is wise and intricately connected to the world – I choose to notice, and to follow the messages it gifts to me.

Drawing on twenty years of experience I facilitate one to ones, classes and workshops, offer mentoring and support for artists, create performance and lead programmes and projects of different sizes and scopes.

In 2016 I became the Creative Director of Cheshire Dance – in this role I champion the importance of embodied knowledge and of valuing, celebrating and amplifying the creative expression of people from underrepresented communities.

In sharing my dancing, poetry and writing I offer glimpses into the world as I experience it. I wonder whether they resonate? And I invite your responses. I believe creative dialogue enriches our perspective on this life we share.

Thank you for reading / watching / listening… noticing.

Here we are. On we go…

Poetry and Writings

A Collection of my Poetry and Writings

Here you will find some of my poems and writings – these have each emerged uniquely, though they share a thread of presence and attention to the world we inhabit, sometimes through moving, dancing, walking… resting. I hope they can offer something to you and welcome any responses.
