Autumn’s Gift

Do trees feel pain when they shed
their leaves?
Or do they know
simply
That letting go
is what they must do?
And how beautifully they do
that letting go
Leaves once all green,
transform
all their glorious colour
revealed
as they let go of summer’s confident facade
Their vulnerability dazzles
in hues of red, yellow, brown, orange
what a gift
to see, know, appreciate
those spectacular hues
Do they know
that letting go
in seasons where mist sits heavily in sky
is simply
what they must do
to reveal the potential,
the opportunity,
the beauty,
within
How can we come to know?
That letting go
reveals kaleidoscope potential
within us
colours, hues, nuances
as yet un-noticed,
un-appreciated
when we,
when society
wills us to stay in eternal summer
we’re missing out
on all which comes in Autumn, in letting go,
in vulnerability, a palette unexplored
Can we trust,
simply
that letting go
is what we must do.
