TEDx UoChester talk video: The Wisdom of the Body Beyond the Studio

Earlier this year I was invited to offer a talk as part of TEDx UoChester. Some of you may have read the blogs that contributed to the talk, but now the talk itself is available to watch on You Tube (eek!)

In these times it feels to me that it’s sometimes hard to keep going with our dance and movement work, maybe thinking it’s not loud or impactful enough…

But I have been part of many conversations, workshops and projects recently when I realise just how vital this work is – a quiet resistance to capitalist forces, the creation of spaces that value difference, diversity, plurality of perspectives, time taken to really connect, understand and be together in ways that don’t require words.

In movement, dance, capoeira we can hold complexity, individuality, community, discord and harmony. I think this is what the world and human beings need more of.

So much gratitude for all those who continue to teach and practice.

The TEDx talk speaks a little to this. I hope it speaks to you somehow.

Hello, thank you for finding your way here. My name is Jane and I am an artist, dancing between forms, gently seeking to move and connect. Through dancing, poetry, writing and mark making I find expression for what’s arising in and through me.
